This is a space to explore how sustainability connects with communication, collaboration, empathy, and other essential soft skills in today’s workplaces. Feel free to share experiences, insights, or questions — whether you’re a learner, educator, or professional.

Frankly said, had never heard about ‘green soft skills’ …. but this seems to make sense! In my work (circular business) most people have a technical background. This has made that we have problems in finding right people to sales and the customer surface. Universities should perhaps invest more on communication etc. skills…?

        Dear Eugene,
        this is the point!
We think that big investment are not necessary: it is useful to change the mindset and to engage students in reflective activities, to let them be aware and acquire soft skills!

In my opinion, asking questions about green soft skills without evaluating the level of soft skills themselves is wrong. If I generally do not have leadership skills (predispositions), then in the context of sustainable development – should I have “green group management skills”?

In my opinion, it is worth discussing soft skills and their “green” version. Firstly, many people are not aware that these soft skills can help in the actual management of organizations and increase their efficiency. On the other hand, if we want to run a business in a sustainable way, we must consider not only the highest possible economic profit as the main goal of our activity, but also take into account social and environmental aspects. Acquiring and developing green soft skills will certainly help in such action that will be consistent with the principles of sustainable development. It should also be added that any soft skill can be “green” provided that it helps to combine economic, social and environmental results. So it is worth learning in general what they are and how to use soft skills in business practice and be aware and able to use them in a “green way”.

There has always been a lack of ‘human skills’ in the technological field, as engineering is basically expected to solve technical problems. We’ve recognized this gap for some years ago, and started to include project working in our studies. Group work and solving real-life (business-based) challenges have turned out to provide students with skills they need in working life and we´ve received good feedback from businesses.
